Artist's Comments

FINALLY FINISHED HER! I drew her a couple of weeks ago! i tried coloring her once....total disaster...I almost gave up on her! Then, a few days ago I saw this tutorial for a new way of coloring (without line art). I rather like it!
This is my first real attempt at clouds and the land from above...and sheets! XD

Please enjoy! I sure did making this!

Oh, and any comments are very much appreciated!

Beautiful coloring on her hair and face :) This must be a beautiful drawing.
The sheet would probably look more realistic with some crisper folds. Right now it feels out of place. You could try defining the features of the cloud, too (a little more).

I think the ground is just right, by the way. Muted and abstract, so it doesn't pull your attention away from her.

^^Thank you very much! Oh! If you would please: How would you go about defining the cloud a little more? I'm just afraid that if I do, it will loose the softness it has now....

You've already started defining areas of the cloud with shadows and highlights. What I would recommend is taking a smaller brush and slowly adding more depth to those areas to define them. Round strokes. Keep the shading gradual and soft. You don't have to lose the soft fluffy feel :)

Hope that helps! :aww:

Very nice job! Makes me happy to read in your description you tried a new coloring technique; some people get so stuck in the one they've been using forever that they can't improve beyond it, if that makes sense. I like the strong highlights on the blanket. She looks really peaceful sleeping there.

I like the different colors in the cloud, but there are parts of it that look off to me...the coloring's a bit grainy in places, like the underside. Clouds are tough enough as it is though (I have yet to get the hang of them myself, lol).

aw she is cute hehe I think the lineless idea worked out well

^^ Thank you! I'm still making adjustmants to this little peice. When I update it, I'll tell you so you can see if I improved it a little!
Yeah, I know what you mean when people find something that kinda works and sticks with it, and that thing ONLY! Nah....I was getting a little...I don't know...anxious about the quality of my work. I didn't want to focus so much on the "lineart". For some reason, whenever I tried, the lineart would be too noticable. It's only supposed to be a skelleton afterall (if that makes any sense....welcome to Amanda-logic...lol!). This new way, I have a little more freedom....

Hey, do you have very much experience in drawing backgrounds (aka, streets, mountains, forrests, etc)? Those are the ones that I seem to have the most problems making them look acceptable! If you could point me in the right direction (or point me to a person/tutorial who can....I'm having a hard time finding them...) I would be very grateful!

Thank you for your time! It's very much appreciated! ^^

ahhh, backgrounds...they are really the bane of my existance in art XD I think the best advice I can give is to reference from photos or life. Check out DA's stock photography section; there are tons of excellent reference photos. I have an entire seires of folders on my computer specifically for saving any good reference photos I come across. Really comes in handy when you're trying to figure out how a treeline might look, or how light would hit the face of a mountain. Biggest thing is just practice (which I really need to get on, lol).
I've yet to come across any good background tutorials myself. If you happen to find one, you will have to let me know :)
