The Christmas Snowmaker by Yukenna The Christmas Snowmaker by Yukenna
This is my anual Christmas drawing! The sketch was a product of too much studying...which is strange, because it turned out good enough for me to wan to use it! Before this, I was afraid I'd never come up with something!

So, yes! This little one crafts the Christmas snow! The most special snow of the year! That christmas tree in the background was originally a picture of our christmas tree in our living room...but then it looked to realistic for the picture, so I drew over it, and FASHIONED this tree after OUR tree! I'm so proud of this tree....the last one I tried was a complete disaster (look for the 2005 Christmas pic in my gallery....I think it's there....if not, just tell me, I'll put it up in my scraps).

Anyway! On this first BEAUTIFUL day of December, I say: Merry Christmas, everybody!

I'm glad! And also very surprised that no one else mentioned it! It's the first thing I saw, my eyes were just drawn to it. ^_^ And the girl's eyes. Her eyes have so much depth. Like she's seen much in her life.

What sort of brush did you use for the snow?

You mean the packs? I use that one brush...that's soft, yes, but it is pressure sensitive for opacity...you'll have to look around the preset brushes for those (it's in there, you just have to experiment with them...I really don't know what it's called). I was really big for the larger shadows, and really small for the more detailed gradients (where her feet are in the drift). I really had to play around before I finally got the hang of it!

Look at my reply for NakaruAngel on how I did the flakes. The drifts....that was chance that it actually turned out, so I can't really say much about them...just find a ton of references! ^^

I can do fine on the snow flakes. The snow itself will be hard. >_<

It's not that hard! You just set your brush to no sensitivity, start in the background with a small diameter, and start putting flecks all over the place. Go to filter-> Gausian blur, and get it kinda blurry (the farther back you are, the more blurry, the closer to the subject, less blurry, and right in front of the "Camara" more blurry). Then, go back to filter-> blur->motion blur, and set the direction to correlate to your picture. Do the same with a layer in the center (this one was in front of the tree but behind the girl) with a little larger diameter, and a little less blurry. And do it again in front of the girl (a little bigger, a little less blurry), and one in front of everything (really big, rather blurry)
It gives size variation and a sense of depth and movement!

As for the drifts....I was lucky those turned out....I had to find many drift references to at least get it right....

You should try a snow picture! It'll be fun, I promise! ^^ Forcing yourself to do stuff you don't think you're good at is how you excel!

And thank you!
